Hello From your Javelina Cantina Hostesses,
Poolie, Beanie, and Rosie!
***************************************

OK, so we aren't REALLY hunting the Javelina. The actual season for hunting the little beasties is as follows:

Seasons:
Jan. 1-25 (Archery Season)
Feb. 8-17 (Handgun/Muzzleloader Season)
Feb. 22-28 (Rifle Season)

Now, iff'n y'all REALLY want to hunt a javelina, you have to apply to the lottery system by October for the next year's season. Then you can come sit in my yard and pick 'em off as they come to loot my orchard.

Just Kidding. Really.

So why a Javelina Hunt? Well, when Poolie and Beanie were visiting me last November, I was telling them about these awful beasties. They wanted to see one for themselves, and since I seemed to recall seeing them at all times of the year, we baited the area outside the fence with apples from my orchard, and waited for them to appear.

Of course, not one single javelina made its appearance. We had been skunked by nasty, smelly javelinas, who were otherwise busy with their lives somewhere else!

No amount of apples brought javelinas to us, and no amount of Margaritas liberally applied could MAKE us believe that we had SEEN javelinas! We took puffy marshmallows out with us, and lit them to use as torches to light our way, but all we found was a herd of mule deer, and a bunch of bunnies.

We traipsed all the way up and down town, and over to Jake's place (where the javelina were wont to linger) and still...nothing. We went back to my porch to consider these matters, and we decided that there was nothing else to do but get together again the next year to try to hunt them again.

Thus was born The Great Javelina Hunt of 2008. We decided that we needed more Hunters, and that in the midst of all of this hunting, we would discuss interesting things like why we had become writers, and how could we get published, and some of the other phenomena of living in a Diary or Blog world.

So come and join the Hunt! Everyone is most welcome, and who knows, we might even get to see one of the beasties. It doesn't really matter, because as a wise woman once said to someone who asked WHY she was hunting javelina (considering their ill-nature), "We're just hunting them, we don't necessarily want to FIND one of them!"
